On July 27, 2025, the Kandaakiat Organization for Women Empowerment and Development (KOWED) officially commissioned and handed over a newly constructed community water well to the people of St. Apollo Kivebulaya Church of Uganda, Namasuba. The symbolic opening ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of KOWED, staff members, church leadership, and a large number of community residents who gathered to celebrate this long-awaited resource.
In her remarks, the Executive Director of KOWED emphasized the organization’s mission to bring sustainable development solutions to underserved communities, especially in areas affecting women and children. She noted that access to clean water is not just a basic need, but a foundation for dignity, health, and opportunity. She further expressed appreciation to the local church for partnering with KOWED and to the community for their active involvement in maintaining the well as a shared asset.
Church leaders also expressed their heartfelt gratitude for this timely intervention. “This well is not just a gift of water it is a blessing for generations to come,” said one church representative. Several community members testified about the difficulties they previously faced fetching water from distant or unsafe sources. The new well is expected to drastically reduce such burdens, especially for women and children who bear the greatest share of water collection duties in the community.
During the event, KOWED staff conducted an orientation on safe water handling, hygiene awareness, and community ownership, ensuring that the well will be well-managed and sustainably used. Singing, prayer, and celebration filled the air as the Taps were officially unveiled and the first clean water was drawn a true symbol of impact and hope for the residents of Namasuba.
This project is part of KOWED’s ongoing efforts to uplift communities through health, empowerment, and infrastructure development. The organization continues to call upon partners, donors, and stakeholders to support similar initiatives that directly transform lives across Uganda.
