



Women of Strength Building Stronger Communities
Kandaakiat for Women Empowerment and Development (KOWED) is a community-based nonprofit organization founded in 2014 to improve the socio-economic well-being of women, youth, and vulnerable groups in refugee and host communities across Uganda.
The name Kandaakiat means “women of strength” in Arabic, reflecting the resilience and courage of the women we serve. Through training, mentorship, savings groups, and small business support, we strengthen resilience and foster sustainable community transformation.
