From 24th to 31st May 2025, Kandaakiat staff undertook an experience exchange visit to Slovenia to learn best practices in sustainable agriculture, community empowerment, and social enterprise development. Visits included eco-friendly home gardens at Association New Earth/Nova, grape farms with value-added wine production, and the Beekeeping Museum, providing insights into sustainable practices, honey production, and value addition processes. The delegation also visited Mozaik Dobrot Factory, which trains persons with disabilities in biscuit, baked goods, and dried fruit production, offering lessons for potential replication in Uganda.
The program included engagements with psychosocial support centers, safe houses for survivors of domestic violence, youth centers, and schools, fostering knowledge exchange on vocational training, gender equality, human rights, and refugee support programs. Participation in Slovenia’s Africa Day celebrations and meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reinforced strategic partnerships, highlighting opportunities for private sector engagement, policy dialogue, and sustainable development initiatives. The visit emphasized cross-cultural learning, innovation in food and agricultural enterprises, and strategies to support vulnerable communities, particularly refugees and women, in Uganda.
