Kandaakiat Organization, in partnership with local communities, has successfully strengthened urban mushroom farming initiatives, fostering both food security and economic empowerment. During a monitoring and technical support visit to the Sisters Union Mushroom Growers in Kawempe on 27 October 2025, the team assessed ongoing production and provided hands-on guidance. In Seeta, 20 members of a semi-formal cooperative launched a mushroom farming project supported by Kandaakiat, which provided a mushroom house, core materials covering 50% of startup costs, and continuous technical support including market linkages. These efforts enhanced both production capacity and enterprise management skills among participants.

Further interventions included distribution of essential materials such as hay, straw, polyethylene bags, cotton wool, mushroom spawn, and packaging equipment to strengthen post-harvest handling and market competitiveness. Ten participants have transitioned into mushroom spawn producers, supplying starter kits to new farmers and earning an average of UGX 100,000 (€28) per day, while five others established independent mushroom businesses earning between UGX 18,000 and UGX 100,000 (€4.5–28) daily. Remote technical support continues to ensure sustainable growth, enabling beneficiaries to generate income and improve household nutrition.
